Inside a Rosenwald School

Students of varying ages sit in a classroom at a Rosenwald school in Chesterfield County. The photographer, Jackson Davis, was an educational reformer who served as the first agent for Negro Rural Schools for the Virginia State Department of Education. Early in the twentieth century, Davis made some 6,000 photographs of African American schools throughout the southeastern United States.
