Lieutenant Governor Sir Henry Chicheley ends a June 1681 letter to William Blathwayt, auditor-general of plantation revenues, with, "Your most affectionate friend & humble servant Hen Chicheley." In the letter, Chicheley claims that he has power in Virginia in name only, and has no control over money issues.
