Miss Fillis and child, and Bill, Sold at publick Sale

An enslaved man, woman, and child are sold at public auction in Christiansburg, Montgomery County, in this watercolor drawing from Lewis Miller's Sketchbook of Landscapes in the State of Virginia. Written on the side of the auctioneer's box are the prices fetched for the slaves: $800 for the man Bill, and $600 for the woman Fillis and her child.
