Giles Buckner Cooke

Giles Buckner Cooke, a Confederate officer who served on the staffs of several Confederate generals including Robert E. Lee, sits for a portrait in this Civil War–era ambrotype. In the postwar years Cooke became an educator and Episcopal minister and served as assistant chaplain general of the United Confederate Veterans. The last living member of Lee's wartime staff, Cooke died in 1937.
