Robert E. Lee in Uniform

Robert E. Lee, commanding general of the Army of Northern Virginia, poses in uniform in 1863. He is holding a sword, carrying a black felt hat with a narrow strip of gold, has field glasses strung across his shoulder, and is gloved and booted for the field. Despite his rank as general, Lee wears a coat with a collar bearing three stars, that of a colonel.
