Jefferson Davis’s Funeral Cortege

On May 31, 1893, a large crowd in Richmond watches the funeral cortege accompanying the body of Jefferson Davis, the former president of the Confederate States of America. Davis died in Louisiana in December 1893 and was buried there. But at the behest of his widow, Varina Davis, his body was reinterred four years later at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, the former Confederate capital.
