Dance at a Williamsburg Home
An advertisement published in the April 20, 1739, edition of the Virginia Gazette gives notice that a dance will take place the following month in the Williamsburg home of Barbara de Graffenreid, a dance instructor and organizer of regular subscription assemblies. A ticket to the dance cost five shillings, paid to Graffenreid, and covered the cost of "a Room, Musick, Candles, and Liquors."
