Shenandoah Valley
In this romantic evocation of the Shenandoah Valley, a dilapidated cabin is the only evidence of human encroachment on the landscape. The artist William Louis Sonntag does not depict a particular place in the Valley; rather, he uses a composite of different sites. The Shenandoah Valley is located in western Virginia and stretches about 140 miles north to south between the Allegheny Mountains on the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the east.
