Edwin Alderman at Wilson’s Memorial Service

University of Virginia president Edwin Alderman speaks at the memorial service for U.S. president Woodrow Wilson. Alderman's father, James Alderman, was an official in the Presbyterian Church where Wilson's father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, ministered. Alderman would remain an avid and public supporter of Wilson's career and, in 1924, delivered the memorial address before a joint session of the United States Congress after the former president's death. This speech was the greatest achievement of his notable public speaking career, acclaimed by politicians and educators alike.
