Press Room of the Richmond Planet
Pressmen operate the Richmond Planet's electric printing press in a photograph taken circa 1889. The front page's masthead is visible in the foreground—a flexed black bicep surrounded by shock waves that radiate from a clenched fist. This photograph was among the images collected by W. E. B. Du Bois and Thomas J. Calloway for the "American Negro Exhibit" at the Paris Exposition of 1900 (Exposition universelle internationale de 1900).
