Virginia & Tennessee Railroad Ticket
A ticket for one seat on the Virginia & Tennessee Railroad from Abingdon to Lynchburg bears the signature of a Confederate official. The ticket was issued on March 29, 1865; less than two weeks later, Confederate general Robert E. Lee would surrender his troops at Appomattox. This ticket was kept by Corporal Thomas Colley, Company D, 1st Virginia Cavalry, and was later found amidst his papers.
