Foraging
Three Union soldiers try to control a bull they have appropriated from a Virginia farm during the Civil War. This illustration, titled Foraging, was created in 1863 by Winslow Homer, who had been sent to cover the war in Virginia for Harper's Weekly. Homer made a series of humorous depictions of camp life—six lithographs plus an illustrated cover—that were bundled into a set titled Campaign Sketches and sold by L. Prang & Company of Boston for $1.50 per set.
