The Rights of the People—Women are People

This 1920 map titled,The Rights of the People—Women are People, indicates the ongoing progress of the states' ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which had been passed by the U.S. Congress on June 4, 1919. The map shows the states where women already enjoyed full suffrage and those states where women had only partial voting rights. Virginia women had no voting rights whatsoever. Twenty-nine states had ratified the amendment when this map was drawn. On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the thirty-sixth state to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, completing the ratification process.
