Fowling Piece, or Duck Gun

George Washington owned this English-made, long-barreled firearm known as a fowling piece. This type of firearm was primarily used for hunting low-flying birds. This weapon might also have been used by Sambo Anderson, an enslaved carpenter who lived on the Mount Vernon estate and sold fowl to Washington to earn money for his family.
