The Cooks’ and Bakers’ School

Soldiers learn how to cook and bake in a mess hall at Camp Lee, a large U.S. Army camp near Petersburg with about 50,000 troops during World War I. This image was published in The Bayonet Remembrance Book of Camp Lee Virginia (1918), a small book of photographs chronicling camp life that was created by Roger Batchelder, who was at officer training school there.
