The Old School Presbyterian Church on Slavery

This is the title page of The Old School Presbyterian Church on Slavery, a forty-eight-page text by the Reverend James Patterson published in 1857. It argues that the "Old School" Presbyterian Church "boldly proclaimed the unchristian character of slavery," while the "New School" faction "denounces … such sentiments as reckless fanaticism" and thereby "bolster[s] up that system which makes merchandize of man."
