Appomattox Manor under Union Occupation

Rufus Ingalls, the quartermaster general of the Union army, stands (at center) on the steps of Richard Eppes's home, Appomattox Manor, in City Point. During the Petersburg Campaign, which lasted from June 1864 until April 1865, Ingalls and his staff used the plantation house as offices.
