Wilson Cary Nicholas

Wilson Cary Nicholas, a member of the Convention of 1788, the U.S. Senate (1799–1804), and the U.S. House of Representatives (1807–1809), as well as the governor of Virginia (1814–1816), is the subject of this painting by William Ludwell Sheppard. Sheppard based his painting on an earlier one created by Gilbert Stuart circa 1805.
