Virginia Life Insurance Company Advertisement

An 1860 advertisement for the Virginia Life Insurance Company notes, at bottom, "slaves [are] insured at low rates." The insurance company opened that year in Richmond and in its inaugural brochure encouraged slaveholders to "INSURE … AT HOME" rather than with "Yankee Companies."
