Abolitionist Tea Caddy
This six-sided tea caddy covered in rolled paper probably dates to late in the eighteenth century. An unknown prisoner of war who was an abolitionist may have created this object. A miniature ivory inset at the center of the box bears the figures of two chained slaves kneeling. In the distance, behind the supplicant figures begging for freedom, are two indistinct man-of-war vessels.
