Gessner Harrison
Gessner Harrison, a professor of ancient languages at the University of Virginia from 1828 to 1859, is the subject of this oil painting. Virginia-born artist Lelia Smith Cocke made this late-nineteenth-century copy of the original portrait, which had been painted by the French artist Louis Mathier Didier Guillaume.
