Memorial to a Slain Student

A stone memorializes the life and death of Nicole Regina White, a sophomore at Virginia Tech University who died in the massacre there on April 16, 2007. White, from Smithfield, received a posthumous degree in international studies. This is one of thirty-two memorial stones—representing twenty-seven students and five faculty members—who died at the hands of Seung-Hui Cho, who opened fire before taking his own life. The memorials are made of polished Hokie Stone, a limestone rock quarried near the campus in Blacksburg.
