Washington Reviewing the Western Army at Fort Cumberland, Maryland

A painting attributed to the artist Frederick Kimmelmeyer depicts President George Washington as he reviews troops at Fort Cumberland, in present-day Maryland, in October 1794. The troops were set to march into Pennsylvania to suppress the tax revolt know as the Whiskey Rebellion; however, the uprising ended abruptly after Washington’s arrival at Cumberland.
