Old Dominion Barn Dance

This group photograph features performers in the Old Dominion Barn Dance, a regular Saturday night country music radio show broadcast over WRVA in Richmond. Mary Arlene Higdon Workman, known as "Sunshine Sue, hosted the show from 1946 until 1957 and stands in the front row, fourth from left. Her husband, John "Sugarfoot" Workman, stands in the back row, second from right. Staged at the Lyric Theater (later the WRVA Theater), the weekly music and humor show was hugely popular, frequently attracting even Governor William M. Tuck, who viewed the entertainment from his private box.
