A Topographical and Statistical Account of the Province of Louisiana (Title Page)

This is the title page of A Topographical and Statistical Account of the Province of Louisiana (1803), an eighty-page compilation of information provided to President Thomas Jefferson about the territory that comprised the Louisiana Purchase. The information, which was supplied by Dr. John Sibley of Natchitoches, Louisiana, and others, included descriptions of the land, its climate, its natural resources, the products it produced, and the people who lived there. Jefferson transmitted the original text to Congress on November 14, 1803, and it was published as a congressional document under the title An Account of Louisiana.
