Map of Liberia

This engraved map of Liberia was published as an inset in a larger map of Africa published in Mitchell's School Atlas and Family Geography (1839). LIberia was a West African colony where freed slaves were being sent by the American Colonization Society (ACS). The map shows the locations of a number of colonies sponsored by state branches of the ACS, including from Maryland, Louisiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
