Archibald Campbell

Archibald Campbell, the editor and publisher of the Wheeling Intelligencer from 1856 until the 1880s and an influential antislavery advocate who supported the creation of the state of West Virginia, is the subject of this photographic portrait. This image was published in Granville Davisson Hall's The Rending of Virginia (1902).
