Richard Evelyn Byrd

Richard Evelyn Byrd, Frederick County's commonwealth's attorney and Speaker of the House of Delegates, poses with a cigar in this photographic portrait. Two of Byrd's sons earned national renown: Harry F. Byrd, who served as the governor of Virginia and as a U.S. senator, and Admiral Richard E. Byrd, who became a famed polar explorer.
