George P. Coleman, head of the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation from 1913 to 1922, is the subject of this glass-plate photographic portrait. The George P. Coleman Bridge, built in 1952 and named in his honor, spans the York River between Yorktown and Gloucester Point in the Tidewater region of Virginia.
