The Virginia State Penitentiary

These architectural drawings, created and signed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe in 1797, depict his plan for the Virginia State Penitentiary in Richmond. Latrobe submitted a number of drawings as part of a competition to choose the architect for the project. A version of Latrobe's design was adopted and the buildings were completed in 1806. In the 1930s, the buildings were demolished.
