Mrs. N. P. Trist’s School for Young Ladies

This broadside announces the opening of a "school for young ladies" in Philadelphia by Virginia Randolph Trist, the wife of Nicholas Philip Trist and a granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson. Instruction included classes in modern languages, Latin, music, drawing, and the "scientific branches." Boarding students paid $150 for a half-year term; day students paid $50. Laundering charges were an extra $12 and the use of the piano an additional $12.  Among those who endorsed the school were General Winfield Scott and George Tucker, a retired professor from the University of Virginia.
