Gilbert Hunt, the City Blacksmith
This is the title page of Philip Barrett's Gilbert Hunt, the City Blacksmith (1859), a thirty-four-page pamphlet designed to raise money for Hunt, an African American blacksmith who had come to the aid of victims during the Richmond Theatre fire in 1811 and the Virginia State Penitentiary fire in 1823. Philip Barrett was a pseudonym for Thomas Ward White.
