Edmund Gibson, Bishop of London

The Reverend Edmund Gibson, bishop of London from 1723 until his death in 1748, is the subject of this three-quarter-length portrait. Gibson is depicted wearing Anglican clerical vestments and holding a book in one hand. This 1727 engraving was based on a portrait by the artist John Ellys.
