Westel Willoughby

Westel Willoughby, an officer in a New York regiment during the Civil War, holds the blade of his sword in this photographic portrait. Willoughby served in the Union army for less than a year, from the autumn of 1862 until the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863, when he was severely wounded and resigned as a result of disability.
