Burton N. Harrison
Burton N. Harrison, an 1859 graduate of Yale College and a member of Skull and Bones, an exclusive secret society at the university, wears the insignia of the organization on his shirtfront. (Note the pin on his shirt in the shape of a skull and crossed bones.) This engraving was based on a daguerreotype created by M. Moulthrop of New Haven, Connecticut. During the Civil War, Harrison served as the personal secretary to Confederate president Jefferson Davis. After the war, he practiced law in New York City and was active in Democratic Party politics.
