On October 6, 1964, Lady Bird Johnson, the wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson, stands at the podium, at right, at the start of a train tour across the South in support of her husband's presidential campaign. Her daughter, Lynda Bird Johnson, wearing white gloves and holding a bouquet of flowers, stands next to her. The campaign train was dubbed "the Lady Bird Special."
