Jeffersonia Diphylla

This woodland wildflower, commonly known as twinleaf, bears the scientific name Jeffersonia diphylla. Benjamin Smith Barton, the most prominent botanist in America in the late-eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, named this plant after Thomas Jefferson to honor his deep knowledge of the natural world.
