Officer’s Commission
In this document dated May 26, 1781, Governor Thomas Jefferson appoints Thomas Walker an ensign in the Albemarle County militia. Jefferson was then in Charlottesville, having convened a session of the General Assembly near his home at Monticello because he feared the British might attack the state government in Richmond.
