Letter Concerning Slave Sale

On December 31, 1806, Peter Carr writes from his estate, Carrsbrook, to his sister Mary and discusses selling his slave Nelly and her two children. He writes that he is very pleased with the sale price of $600 but unhappy that "the poor creature [being sold], is so distressed as very much to damp my satisfaction."
