Hollins College Postcard

A twentieth-century color postcard depicts the Charles L. Cocke Memorial Library (misspelled "Cooke" in the caption) at Hollins College in Roanoke. Cocke is considered the founder of the school, though it had been in existence for four years before his arrival. Cocke took over as superintendent of the school in 1846, when it was called Valley Union Seminary, and served as its head until his death in 1901, when the school was known as Hollins Institute. The all-women's school later became Hollins University.
