In a twentieth-century reenactment, Jack Jouett, on horseback, warns Governor Thomas Jefferson that the British are en route to Monticello. The historic event took place on the morning of June 4, 1781. In this promotional event staged by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation, Jefferson was played by Harry Rogers Pratt, and Jouett by a captain of the Monticello Guard named Fletcher. Jouett is dressed here as a military officer, although no extant official records list him as one. The Virginia Chamber of Commerce likely distributed this image.
