Philip Alexander Bruce

Philip Alexander Bruce, a historian best known for his five-volume history of seventeenth-century Virginia, is the subject of this formal portrait. Four volumes of Bruce's history are visible in the bookcase behind him. The artist Pierre Troubetzkoy created the original painting, and Helen Schuyler Smith Hull Bailey made this copy in 1960.
