Death Mask of Robert Emmet Taken by the Older Petrie.

This is the death mask of Robert Emmet, the Irish nationalist executed on September 20, 1803, for high treason after leading an unsuccessful rebellion against British rule. After Emmet was hanged in Dublin, his friend James Petrie went to the jail where the body was left and made this mask. The body was later buried in an unmarked grave.
