Virginia State Capitol

This modern photograph depicts the exterior of the State Capitol in Richmond. The central portion of the building, designed by Thomas Jefferson in consultation with the French architect Charles-Louis Clérisseau, was based on the Maison Carrée, a Roman temple in Nîmes, France. The two wings on the building are twentieth-century additions.
