Virtual Tour of the Virginia State Capitol

This is a virtual tour of the Virginia State Capitol, the seat of state government in the Commonwealth of Virginia, located in Richmond, where the Virginia General Assembly meets. The structure was built by enslaved laborers following a neoclassical design conceived by Thomas Jefferson with the assistance of Charles-Louis Clérisseau that was based on a Roman temple, the Maison Carrée at Nîmes in southern France. The original structure was completed in 1788, but it subsequently underwent several renovations and expansions, including the addition of two wings.
