Equal Suffrage.

This twenty-six-page publication, titled Equal Suffrage. Address from the Colored Citizens of Norfolk, Va., to the People of the United States (1865), includes an account of the formation of the Colored Monitor Union Club of Norfolk, an organization of African Americans devoted to securing suffrage for black men. The book also narrates the events that took place in Norfolk during an election held on May 25, 1865. On that day members of the group were barred from voting in several wards; in the single ward where they were permitted to vote, their ballots were not counted.
