Jockey atop Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes

Jockey Ron Turcotte, atop the thoroughbred Secretariat, is led around the paddock by the groom Ed Sweat during the Belmont Stakes on June 9, 1973. Secretariat won the race that day by thirty-one lengths and set a record for time (two minutes twenty-four seconds) on the 1.5-mile dirt track, clinching the Triple Crown.
