Manchester, Virginia

Brick industrial buildings line the southern banks of the James River in Manchester, a port town across from Richmond. This photograph was probably taken after Richmond fell to Union forces in April 1865. Manchester became an independent city in 1874 but merged with the larger city of Richmond in 1910.
