Samuel Barron
Samuel Barron, a Confederate naval officer headquartered for a time in Europe, poses for his portrait at a photographic studio in Paris. Barron arrived in London in late 1863 and then moved to Paris, where he remained until early 1865, when he requested a return to Virginia. Barron's residence in Paris became a well-known center of Southern hospitality, but he achieved little else on behalf of the Confederate States of America.
